| December 15, 2006 Alaskan in Exile by Neil Zawicki
The Jews there disagree with the idea that the Holocaust was a hoax, but they do support ending the Israeli state. Their position is that the Jewish state uses the Holocaust as justification for its existence. United Kingdom-based Rabbi Aharon Cohen, speaking at the conference, said there was no doubt about the Holocaust and it would be "a terrible affront to the memory of those who perished to belittle the guilt of the crime in any way". He continued, "The Zionists, with their secular pompous approach behave in complete opposition to this philosophy and dare to say ‘Never Again.’ They have the audacity to think that they can prevent the Almighty from repeating a Holocaust. This is heresy." The rabbis at the conference support a peaceful dissolution of the Israeli state and a condemnation of Zionism, which seeks to swallow all of Palestine. Let’s turn now to perhaps the most well known Jew of our century, former Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth. Right now, I’m listening to Van Halen’s first album, and it’s almost impossible to convey the sound with mere words. But, goddammit, “Runnin’ with the Devil” always turns me into a silly little freak. And how about “I’m on Fire”? What a wonderful piece of music: “Turrrrrrn your radios on! I’ll-a-be-a-right there…Yes I will. Throw your headphones on! I’m in your…Heaaaaaaaaddd! Your … Head.” I spent one week, about a month ago, listening exclusively to Van Halen’s first album, just to see what it would do to my head. Can you dig that picture on the back of the album? The one where David Lee Roth is bent over like the Saint Louis Arch wearing a pair of leather pants and platform boots? It makes the world a little brighter, doesn’t it? Meanwhile, actual Jews are arguing my previous point that Israel has a bully complex. It is not healthy to hold on to bitterness. And it is certainly not very spiritual. Let it go. Do not become your enemy. Take a lesson from Van Halen’s first album. I’m not entirely certain what that lesson is, but I’ve been waiting a very, very long time to find a way to work Van Halen’s first album into one of these installments, not to mention David Lee Roth and his Jewish heritage. Now is that time. “Good God, yo…I’m on Fire! I’m on Fire! I’m on Fire!” Neil Zawicki, exiled Alaskan, is Editor at Large for Insurgent49, a former reporter for the Alaska Star, and winner of the Alaska Press Club's 'Best Columnist' award.
