| October 20, 2006 Alaskan in Exile by Neil Zawicki I just finished watching Loose Change, the 9/11 conspiracy documentary that Nova Stubbs wrote about two weeks ago. Just an hour before that, I watched a sort of generic version of the same thing. I found that one on www.st911.org, and I found that Web site after watching Bill O’Reilly ridicule a guest as a nut job and a lunatic for suggesting the government was behind the attacks. A week before that, I wrote about conspiracy theorist Clyde Lewis and his position on the issue. I’ve re-arranged some of my ideas about 9/11. And I feel a little sick. Like Nova, I am not going to attempt to describe the information presented in the documentary; I was able to download the entire movie online for free, and I think everyone should do the same, and then re-arrange their own ideas. Or not. But I think they will. Consider this: Before I put my feet firmly on one side of the argument or the other, I would like to see a point-by-point rebuttal to all the information presented in Loose Change. I do not think that is going to happen, and again I am not going to try to make reference to why – although about 15 examples from the documentary come to mind. Okay, here’s just two: The first is the fact, proved by a physicist, that cell phones at the time of the attacks did not work at cruising altitude in an aircraft, but we were treated to a collection of last-minute cell phone calls made to loved ones from passengers on the hijacked planes. Calls that sounded very strange, like the man who called his mother and introduced himself by his first and last name. The second is that the FBI will not release confiscated security camera footage that would show a commercial aircraft crashing into the Pentagon if one did in fact do so. A commercial aircraft, by the way, that punched a tiny hole in the building and left no human carnage or logical aircraft parts in its wake. Okay, that’s all you get, because if I continue I won’t be able to stop. Just watch the movie. Again, really, the arguments are strong and the facts are gigantic. So, if in fact our government orchestrated this, then our government has been corrupted beyond repair, and our nation will become sick, and then die. That is the truth. But here’s another thing: I’d lay odds that President Bush knew nothing of the entire thing, and was as surprised as we all were. He’s the perfect patsy, and certainly the plotters knew he would jump in and perform the way they needed. Or not. I have never aligned myself with conspiracy theory, and I still don’t. But I don’t think Loose Change counts as such, in the traditional sense of the idea. Just watch the movie.
