| September 16, 2005 Alaskan in Exile by Neil Zawicki “Nobody
expected the levees to break.”
—George W. Bush Fact: Engineers had predicted for years that the levees in New Orleans would likely fail in the event of a major storm, and several experts said so on several occasions in the week before Hurricane Katrina. I have a simple question for anyone who still supports our president. How can you excuse Mr. Bush this time? How can you continue to support a man who acts with such incompetence and flagrant disregard for fact? I defy any of you to defend the president’s comment, and I have no respect for anyone who continues to support him. In fact, I have absolute contempt for anyone who continues to support him. George W. Bush is a privileged and arrogant frat boy. He has time and again revealed himself as a person whose only agenda as president is to be president. He does not posses the knowledge, or even interest in knowledge required for such an important job. “Nobody expected the levees to break.” How can you defend that? If an employee at any company acted with such incompetence, that person would be fired. “Nobody expected the levees to break.” I wash my hands of anybody who does not turn their back on our embarrassing president. His approval rating is somewhere in the 30s now – an all-time low. Let’s unite as a nation and remove him from office, before his term is up and he opens a library in Crawford. I have no respect for anyone who continues to support him. This includes family members, longtime friends and colleagues. “Nobody expected the levees to break.” How can you excuse him for that? It was not a misspoken comment, or an offhand remark that came out wrong. He said: “Nobody expected the levees to break.” How can you excuse him for that? This is an open call to anyone out there. I’ll give you my 1975 Gibson SG guitar, my 1968 C-20 flatbed truck, a pair of 7X50 West Marine water resistant binoculars and my coffee maker if you can convince me that you still believe George W. Bush is a competent world leader, even though he said: “Nobody expected the levees to break.” This isn’t funny anymore. Anyone who continues to support the president is a contemptible, gullible, fairytale believing, TV watching, fattened American consumer, and you deserve no respect. The gloves are off now. Turn your back on the president. Come on. You’re either with us, or against us.
