| March 29, 2007 Editor’s Desk by Aaron Selbig, insurgent49 Tuesday, April 3rd Is Election DayFor all the information you need on Tuesday's election, including polling places and hours, candidate profiles and proposition language, go to the Anchorage Municipal Elections website: www.muni.org/elections. While Insurgent49 would never presume to tell our readers how to vote, this is how we will be casting our votes on Tuesday: Statewide Advisory Vote (banning benefits for same-sex partners of state employees): NO We couldn't be more passionate about this one. It is time to end discrimination against our LGBT brothers and sisters. Anchorage Municipal Election Proposition 1 (repealing the extension of Anchorage's smoking ban into bars and restaurants): YES. We are tempted to not recommend anything here, as this is an issue folks are very passionate about, but we feel that the line must be drawn somewhere regarding the legislation of health in a free society. Proposition 2 (parks and recreation bonds): YES. Proposition 3 (transportation and public safety bonds): YES. Proposition 4 (Clark Middle School replacement bonds): YES. It is no wonder that students in this part of Anchorage have a hard go of it, when their facility is in a state of shameful neglect. Clark Middle School must be replaced. Proposition 5 (education capital improvements bonds): YES. Proposition 6 (roads and storm drainage bonds): YES. Proposition 7 (fire protection bonds): YES. Proposition 8 (equestrian center lease): YES. This proposition will aid the Rainbow Connection Therapeutic Horseback Riding Program, which provides its services to Alaskans with disabilities. Proposition 9 (Jacobsen Park land exchange): Votes on this proposition have been rendered moot by the withdrawl of the applicant. Proposition 10 (changing apportionment rules for Anchorage Assembly): NO. Why should we vote yes on this? Nobody we've talked to really seems to be sure. We're just naturally suspicious of any attempt to re-align Assembly districts. School Board, Seat B: Chris Tuck Assembly Seat A: Jim Byrnes Assembly Seat C: Janet Brand Assembly Seat D: Matt Claman Assembly Seat F: Elvi Gray-Jackson Assembly Seat H: Sheila Selkregg Assembly Seat J: Val Baffone Aaron Selbig is an activist and media junkie who resides in an undisclosed location in downtown Anchorage.
