| March 19, 2005 Letter To Uncle Ted Dear Uncle Ted, Sorry to hear about your current bout of depression, but such is the life of a crusader. You have fought bravely all these long years and we ‘owner state’ Alaskans salute you for it. For over twenty years, from the Senate floor you have championed our right to procure and protect ANWR’s riches. Your peers may have turned their back on you, but we’ve never lost confidence that you’ll be there stamping your foot to make sure we get our way. Your honest admission of “clinical depression” on the front page of your hometown paper might be viewed from some liberal critics as emotional blackmail, but even a young cheechako like me sees the wisdom in your vision of democracy. Ted, the next step is acceptance. ANWR will not be opened. Take solace Senator, just think about the next time you are coming home from the rigors of DC. and you get to hear the Alaska Airlines flight attendant saying “you are now arriving at the Ted Stevens International Airport”. What a thrill that must be. Don’t even start talking retirement amigo. Think Strom. But if you do, spare Ben that same heartache. Chris Chester Anchorage |
