A Hammering I Go
by Brian Anderson, insurgent49

When I was young boy
My father gave me his hammer
He taught me to swing
He taught me to hit
He taught me how to nail
And as he passed into memory
I picked up his tool
And I began to hammer

Calluses grew and hardened skin did form
But oh so many nails surrounded me
    And a-hammering I went

Then one day
This hammer I hold
Grows heavy as I nail
And nail and nail
Until there are no nails left
So I look again
For a nail
Until I find a wife
Until I find a child
Until I find a home
And still I must work

And then one day
I have no home
I have no child
I have no wife
Just nails and nails and nails
Holding up these boards
Blocking off the world
That surround me.
